When Mike Williams said, and I'm paraphrasing, "I'm not condoning the use of drugs for creativity...but it worked for me." That was funny for several reasons, one is Hunter S. Thompson said almost the exact same thing once. I'm from the deep south, there's no place like it. The people are genuinely nice and caring, the food is awesome, the women are gorgeous, the values are instilled at a young age. FAMILY IS EVERYTHING in the south. Loyalty means something down there. No matter if you're white, black or green. Treat people how you wish to be treated. The "golden rule" will always prevail. Just don't be a fuckhead to other people, and you'll be fine. Crazy concept...I know. P.S. Sludge metal is one of my favorite kinds of music and it was born in NOLA. Melvins also created their own brand.
Pantera is the greatest band ever. Acid Bath is the 2nd greatest. And Goatwhore is the best black metal band from the U.S. It's not a coincidence that all those bands have NOLA roots.
Singer of Eyehategod, DAMN! hard to believe that much energy comes from him on stage , in interview dude seems pretty damn cool, I could relate and hangout, all of these guys really just 'Down' .. Love to kick it w/'em! NOLA, that was a Damn good series for a genre that seems to have been born from a little town with a small band of brothers bringing Big Sound. Love all you guys man! (that house Phil, Sweet! I have the same brown Chevy van, would love to come down and play some blues harp some time, looks so peaceful and isolated You guys All fucking Rock!
Even though I love most of these bands, I knew little about New Orleans before watching this, being from Canada and all. Listening to the story about the band member who committed suicide, maybe that Crowbar song was about him. I enjoyed watching this.
Ahhh reminds me of good times here in my hometown in Eunice, Louisiana. I literally live amongst vast acres of rice fields that also farm crawfish, sometimes they are good, other times not so much, but every now and then I go to a well known and loved local dive called HAWK'S RESTAURANT located literally in the middle of nowhere and they have the BEST crawfish and seafood you can ask for, at least in my area. Anyone ever visiting around the Lafayette area should ask around about HAWK'S which is about 20 or so miles west of Lafayette, hard to find but WELL worth it.
lol i think beavis and butthead gave the answer when they did the bit on crowbar, dont believe me? Listen to the song all i had i gave and that transition will answer the question.
The metal scene in south Louisiana is dead as dead can be. The varsity theatre in Baton Rouge hosted Obituary and Corpse some years back but that was about it. In NOLA, Phil plays some local dives but nobody comes here to play anymore. If you want a really badass hardcore/metal city, Detroit is where it’s at. Clutch Cargos, the Fox, the Shelter, St Andrews, and the list goes on. Detroit has been, and will always be the king of rock when it comes to live venues.
Steve Protoss I just saw Testament/Anthrax at the H.O.B.I saw Clutch,Exodus a few months back.C.O.C.,Dying Fetus,Perfect Circle,Manson,Nine Inch Nails and a few more that I know will be in town in the near future.
